One of the things that inspires me most is the natural world, especially flora and fauna. After a morning spent collecting grasses, flowers and leaves, I set to work, drawing them, with some help from my pets……

The gumtrees of Australia are not only iconic, but are also one of my favourite things to draw. The flowers come in so many colours; all shades of pink, orange and creams, even pale citrus greens. The gumnuts vary drastically in shape, size and clusters and the leaves can be thin, wide and sometimes straight or curly. I live opposite a reserve, which has gumtrees that are over 50 years old and I never get bored of the view from my lounge window.

I decided to create party paper that I could see myself buying. I love colour, but when it comes to food, I like to eat from a white plate. Blue and white is a traditional yet fresh colour combination, which also has broad appeal, so that was exactly what I did. I could see myself using these sat under the gums at the local Belair National Park, on one of our group days out.

I could also see this design adorning any special occasion or for general use at home. The joy of designing vector art is that with just a few clicks blue and white can be any colour combination you choose. If you fancy pink, orange and green, with purple spots, just let me know and I shall see what I can do.

I think I shall have to get some made. Would you like some too?
